Some of you may or may not have been watching the most recent season of American Horror Story: Hotel, and, well unless you’ve been living under a rock then you’ll know that the beautiful and talented, Lady Gaga has her first major acting role in this series alongside stars such as Kathy Bates and Chloë Sevigny.

Lady Gaga is notorious for her eccentric style; in fact she is one of the most recognisable style icons of our generation with friends such as Donatella Versace, Brandon Maxwell and Alexander Wang. And, AHS have managed to use her quirky style to their advantage when portraying the character Elizabeth. Elizabeth is an alluring character, a countess who has a love for art, literature and fashion and sustains herself on a diet of sex and blood. Not only is Elizabeth ravishing in looks but also her wardrobe is to die for! She seduces her prey with her dazzling good lucks and more importantly her outfits. Her outfits are one of the many prominent motifs that AHS use for Elizabeth to entice her victims.

In every scene she never fails to look flawless and fabulous, from her devilish red underwear to her silky satin kimonos to her unbelievable floor length gowns, and even though Lady Gaga is playing the character of a bloodsucking, kidnapping, sex fiend we cannot seem to keep our eyes from her. She’s sexy and seductive and oozes confidence and elegance at the same time.

It’s safe to say the costume designer for American Horror Story, Lou Eyrich, is due a standing ovation for her jaw-dropping handy work. For Eyrich to try and differentiate a separate fashion identity Elizabeth away from Gaga’s personal style must have been proven tough, as we know Gaga is quite the extraordinaire when it comes to her sense of style and in an E! interview Gaga stated that “I would really like it if people were watching the show and not feel like they were watching Lady Gaga, but they were watching The Countess, so that’s important to me, and I’ve spent a lot of time working on that.” So for Gaga and Eyrich to really let go of Lady Gaga and still push the boundaries when it comes to The Countess’ individual style must have been difficult.

According to an interview with the costume designer Lou, she stated that she is constantly dipping in to the TV Show’s costume bin, recycling the odd bits and pieces from previous series’. When it comes to The Countess’ style, after having been around for many decades her prevailing taste has managed to keep up with the ongoing trend. According to Eyrich, the show wanted to bring inspiration from old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist and boy did she nail it! As well as this, Gaga reportedly used a lot of her own clothes as well as loaning garments from fashion houses such as John Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood.

Even though American Horror Story is gory, disturbing and plain horrifying it’s also perpetually fanciful and flamboyant. From series to series Lou Eyrich and her team put on an individual display of beauty and glamour.

Even Elizabeth’s makeup is perfection throughout the series, from glittery teardrops to her bold cat flick eyeliner, never mind a Countess, she is a goddess.

The series is half way through for us Brits (unless you’ve been cheating and watching online) and well, we are expecting so much more from Eyrich and the costume team, so feast your eyes upon Elizabeth and her stunning outfits and makeup, so far.
