Coconut oil is taking the world by storm. And no wonder, there are hundreds of health and beauty benefits of using this miraculous potion. From massaging your feet to sweetening your morning coffee, read on for the beautiful benefits of coconut oil. So, if you’re a coconut oil virgin, look no further as I am going to share with you my favourite uses of this wonderful, oil. Thank me later, hunz.
Uses for coconut oil:
Moisturise your body
As I previously mentioned you can use it on your feet (or anywhere on your body for that matter). It’s a great basic lotion or moisturiser, and will leave your skin silky smooth – not to mention giving you a golden glow when used as part of your daily routine. I personally like to use it as a nighttime moisturiser, and literally slather it all over my face before bed. Due to its high fat and protein content it helps retain the moisture in your skin and prevent loss through your pores. When we digest these fats, they deposit under your skin therefore making your skin look healthy and radiant.
Fun fact: coconut oil can also be used as SPF 4.
Stir it in your coffee
Yes you can add it to your coffee, (recommended amount: one teaspoon, but it tastes great so what the hell, add three) to get your daily dose.
Replace unhealthy oils and margarines
You can use it day to day as a as a healthier alternative to processed fats – such as oil and margarine. Fry with it, roast with it, bake with it and use it anywhere you would oil or butter. The benefits coconut oil has to our body are countless. It consists of mainly medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs help speed up your metabolism, helping you burn more calories, and therefore helping us loose weight. HORRAH. Pass me a jar!
Good for heart health
There is a huge misconception that coconut oil is not good for our heart, due to its large quantity of saturated fats. But in actual fact, it’s super beneficial for us and our heart. Containing around 50% lauric acid – a component of triglycerides – it actively prevents common heart problems like high cholesterol and high blood pressure, making this particular product brilliant for our healthy hearts, so get cooking…
And last but certainly not least, for our luscious locks
Made up of 100% natural ingredients, coconut oil provides optimum nutrition for your hair. And like I previously mentioned, its high protein content helps reduce protein loss – keeping your locks looking shiny and in beautiful condition. And if you use it as a hair mask, it’ll help growth and repair any damage caused over the years.
Speaking of condition, it can also be used as a conditioner. As Billy Madison would say, “conditioner is better” – no hun, coconut oil is better. It’s good for re-growth and repair, but also acting as a strong protection from sun damage.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m on my way to stock up my cupboard.
